What is the best treatment for baby eczema?

By admin On July 30, 2009 8 Comments

My 15 month old son has patches of eczema on his arms near his elbows and his upper thighs. I have been using Aveeno baby wash, Aveeno baby lotion and Aquaphor ointment. When the patches look really irritated, I put prescription hydrocortisone on it. They look like they clear up for a few days then it flairs up again. Is there any thing more I can be doing?

mometasone furoate ointment 0.1% works well on the irriatated spots. yet, the pediatricians told me to not use it often because it thins out the skin and leaves white patches. i use it on my daughter’s eczema too. she gets red patches on her cheeks and some spots on her forearm and calf. it gets real bad to the point when there is liquid oozing out. i use the ointment once shes asleep, apply a very thin layer and the next morning it usually clears up i then i would use aquaphor. im looking into using sarna lotion. can be purchase at walgreens or cvs pharmacy. i treid cetaphil not any help. my friends that have ezcema that are adults use cetaphil bar soap and the lotion. some say gold bond works as well

Maintaining a Baby’s Health

By admin On July 30, 2009 No Comments

Following birth, things don’t get easier for parents or doctors as babies’ health
must be monitored closely before the baby can leave the hospital. Babies’ health is vitally important at the time of birth because any complications that arise after birth might point to medical conditions that can occur down the road. There are hundreds of babies born each week that have health complications that can lead to a serious disease, a short-term sickness, or even death in the worst of cases. Babies’ health
is just as important as the health of the mother at the time of the birth and following the birth.

A newborn baby should receive a certain amount of shots following his or her birth to prevent certain diseases and medical complications. Other babies’ health topics include feeding, bathing, diapering, and soothing the baby after his or her birth. The most important aspect of babies’ health is the feeding part. Every couples of hours during the day a newborn baby needs to be fed in order to help him or her grow into a healthy child.

Even following the birth of a baby the doctor is the most important part of the mother and baby’s life. Why are doctors so important to a mother and child during the pregnancy, during the birth, and after the birth? Only a doctor will be able to effectively answer any questions regarding babies’ health that mothers, fathers, grandparents, and other guardians might have regarding their child. Babies can come down with a cold or a cough at any time during their infancy and if it is not cared for right away it could develop into something much worse that could cause long-term health problems. Whether parents are veterans or rookies, babies’ health is an important topic for any type of parent and even grandparent that should be taken seriously. Babies’ health is such an important topic that there have been hundreds of books and articles written about the topic across the world. The majority of these books and articles discuss how to keep a newborn baby healthy throughout their infancy with the proper feeding techniques and the proper caring techniques.

Colic Baby Remedies That Will Stop The Crying

By admin On July 29, 2009 No Comments

Baby colic may look distressing for a baby, but let me tell you that it is more distressing for the parents. Colic is not a medical problem that can harm baby. Infant colic is a term given to healthy babies that cry excessively and the reason is unknown. That’s right, colic does not equal a sick baby. On the contrary, infant colic is highly stressful for the parents. They don’t get enough rest time, they face exhaustion, they don’t feel good about themselves and they are trying hard to stay sane.

Babies cry to communicate many things. Therefore, some parents ask, “how can I tell that baby is crying because of colic and not for any other reason?” Parents that had to deal with infant colic before will tell you that a colic cry is very distinct. Colic crying differs from a hunger cry or any other cry. It is highly intensed. You won’t call it crying but rather screaming that can burst your eardrum. Plus, it can last for hours. Baby is inconsolable. You’ll also notice other symptoms such as red cheeks, prominent abdomen, clenched fists and legs drawn up to their stomachs. It is common for colic to begin when baby is around 3 weeks old. Colic will end when baby is around three months old. Some colicky babies may follow a pattern and cry at the same time everyday. But that’s not always the case.

The priority of any parent who is battling infant colic is to find a a way to stop it. Unfortunately, if you ask a doctor how to do it, they may give you a disappointing answer. The problem is, medical professionals have yet to find what causes colic. There are multiple theories floating out there. Which one is the right one, no one can say for sure. Some say it’s gas in baby’s tummy. Then there is also the idea that baby is adjusting to life outside the womb. Sometimes it’s the milk formula being used. No one can say which one is for certain the right answer. That’s why discovering a colic baby remedy that works more often than not involves trial and error.

Here’s a list of things that have been recommended by colic survivors. Keep in mind there’s no guarantee it will work for your crying baby.
1. Learn to swaddle baby
2. Carrying baby around in a sling
3. Massage techniques
4. Put on some white noise like running water or the vacuum
5. Have baby suck on a pacifier. There are pros and cons to this.
6. Use a baby gizmo such as bouncy seats or swings that come with a vibrating mode.
7. Give baby a nice warm bath.
8. Change baby’s surroundings by taking baby out of the house.
9. Sing a lullaby.

The solutions above deals with the baby. Let’s now turn our attention to the parents. How can parents help themselves? First of all, don’t blame yourself for what is happening. Don’t feel like you are a bad parent because you can’t console your baby. It will also do you good to recruit some help. Engage the help of your spouse, church members, neighbours, friends, family and maybe even a baby sitter. Also, it’s okay to let baby cry it out for a few minutes while you go into another room to calm your frazzled nerves. It’s vital that you look after yourself too. Do not regard such acts of self care as acts of selfishness. If you are not at 100%, how are you going to care properly for your baby? Another idea is to connect with other parents that have been in the same boat as you. Talking to someone who can sympathize with you can be comforting. You can find such parents in your community or the internet. Having a support group that knows what you are going through will make your burden easier to bear.

I’m sure many people have tried to comfort you by saying that these challenging colic days will soon be over. I understand that when you are going through it, time just cannot go by faster. If you now lost for ideas, check out this one more colic baby remedy that could change your life. As a parent, you mustn’t give up trying.
