parents with babies who have eczema…? aussie parents?
i had to take my son to the doctor today as he has developed eczema…on his groin the poor thing.
His whole scrotum, penis and in the groin (but not on his bottom, but he has some nappy rash there) is bright red, dry and sore and has caused his penis (he’s uncircumcised) to become a little infected so he is on antibiotics and is using a cortisone cream 2-3 times a day.
I am using QV oil in the bath and QV cream on his body as well as using cotton squares and QV cream or warm cloths instead of wipes.
Can i use sorbolene cream and cotton squares?
Is there anything else i can do for him to make this go away quicker? He is so sore today, but is peeing and pooping fine, but the eczema doesn’t really seem to by anywhere else other than a dry skin under his knees.
I don’t know what else i should be doing.
Oh and he’s developed a small amount of nappy rash on his lower butt (cos hes pooping a little more due to teething which is normal for him) now so I’m using a 100% natural ‘paw paw’ ointment which normally works great for him, just wondering if that is okay for if he has eczema?
Oooh poor little guy, sounds very painful.
My middle son gets shocking eczema, mainly on his hands and legs.
I am aussie too, and yes, I use QV bath oil in the bath, never soap with him.
I pat him dry, not rub with the towel, and then lather him right up with sorbolene cream. I also have a sorbolene pump bottle in the bathroom to use instead of soap.
I would just let him have as much nappy free time as possible, keep the area well moisturised as well as applying the cortisone cream as directed.
I have never used paw paw cream, so can’t really help there. Maybe give the chemist a quick ring and ask them, that’s what I usually do if I am unsure about anything medicine/ ointment related.
Lots of luck, and I hope he clears up soon ( the cortisone should start working fairly quickly, I notice when my son has flare ups we put some on at bedtime, and it is a lot better by morning.)
Eczema is a pain, hopefully it doesn’t last too long for him.
Ooh yeah, and accept my Facebook friend request, lol.

Mothers of babies/children with eczema… Help me…?
I think my 15 month old son may have eczema.. it doesn’t seem too bad nor does it seem to really bother him. We took him to the doctor last week and his pediatrician really didn’t listen to me very well and just wrote it off as "dry skin". This rash appeared on his back almost two weeks ago and hasn’t gone away. They look like clusters of tiny fleshed colored bumps.. like patches of really dry skin… I’ve been using Cortaid and Triple paste for Eczema and it’s not working. We haven’t changed anything in the house, we use all dye/parfume free detergents and soaps, and he hasn’t had any new foods. The rash starts to look better and then when ever we give him a bath it flares up really bad. Has anyone else experienced that?
Also just now starting to notice a few tiny patched on his face around his eyebrows and most recently something going on in areas of his scalp.
If your child has eczema does it flare up when he/she gets in the water?
Since his doctor is no help, would the next step be for me to take him to a dermetologist? (sp?)
My daughter has had eczema since birth practically. Baths with normal bath soap is just no good for her. The heat and cold also affect her eczema. If it is eczema the key is to keep it moisturized at all time. I was told to use Cetaphil in the bath as her soap & Eucrin calming cream every day. They are both over the counter and can be found at your local drug store. I would just check with an other doctor to make sure it is in fact eczema and that thoose products are ok for yoru child to use. My daughter has been using them since about 9months. Hope this helps! And becareful this summer with heat and humidity it can cause really bad flare ups!
Help for baby eczema?
My 6 month old has bad eczema all over his body. He scratches at it constantly, and we think he has trouble sleeping because he is so uncomfortable. He wears socks on his hands for the majority of the day because if he doesn’t have them on he’ll scratch until he draws blood. We’ve tried all the creams and nothing seems to work. The doctor says he’ll outgrow it but we need something to stop the itching, we feel sorry for the little guy! Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Aveeno makes an oatmeal bath for really dry skin, eczema is mentioned on the label. It cleans their body too so you don’t have to worry about soap. If you use soap only use Dove. I’ve read to only use water for eczema too. I also use Aveeno’s cream, they have one out for Eczema. I’ve heard of the hydrocoritizone cream but haven’t tried it yet. I also use a humidifier in her room at night because the heat dries them out so bad. The more moister in the air the better.
Keep trying different things I guess. Everyone reacts differently. Good Luck, the poor thing!
